Hurricane Chevron Surges Over Dauphin Island

Despite near perfect weather conditions hurricane Chevron surged over/past the corporate competition at the annual Hurricane 5K on Dauphin Island September 9th.    In their Corporate Cup (CC) debut the Chevron Gaitors captured first in Division II.   Team runners Paul Wetterer, Guy Truett, and Mary Flood, took second, third and fifth positions in Division II finishers for low team score of 10 points (2+3+5).

Chevron runner Ron Goodwin finished just ahead of Mary based on actual time, but got bumped to 14th in CC finished based on age/gender adjusted standard times.  Lessons learned; run as fast as you can because you cannot always see your competition, and younger plus faster does not always equal winner.

Other Chevron runners taking part in the Hurricane run were Jimmy Hansel, Roger Broome, and George Dicker.    Total team participation of 7 persons was average or slightly better than average for the 27 corporate teams registered in 2000-2001 competition.

Special congratulations to both Mary (21:28) and Ron (21:23) for PR’s (personal records) over the 5K distance.

Next CC race is the MRA Runway 8K to be held September 30th at Brookley Field in Mobile, Alabama.
